The title of this blog sounds like a book title. I would love to tell you this stuff like a story but to be honest I am not a very good story teller. The good thing is that if you tell me this and make a comment on anything I write then I would rather agree or disagree but I can assure you on my part that being a mature person I won’t ask you to start your own blog and then write whatever you want to. Some of the greats (?) of our society dont seem to understand this.
This story is about a strong comment from an expert Cricket and Cricket critic Sunil Gavaskar and then a slamming reply from an expert businessman Shaharukh Khan. Gavaskar's Column: http://www.hindustantimes.com/StoryPage/StoryPage.aspx?id=2d54b66f-9f21-468d-be3a-56104060cc27 SRK’s Reply: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/videoshow/4362942.cms
Let’s begin with Mr. Gavaskar. John Buchanan has proposed a theory of multiple captains in the game of 20-20 and Gavaskar severely criticized it in the above mentioned column. I personally don’t understand why you would need multiple captains. We already have a provision for a vice captain. So for me it’s not a tactical suggestion it was quite a political suggestion. KKR coach and owner are already not happy with Saurav Ganguly but if they sack him from the captaincy then they would loose all the support from Bengalis and in turn the revenue from the communist state. So the only way to sideline Ganguly is to supplement the team with another captain. If that captain succeeds in few matches then project him as the only captain of KKR. How is it? Typical Australian. Keep aside Gavaskar even Ganguly has publicly shown his disagreement with this idea. I am a well informed sports lover, I do understand the tactics, techniques and strategies of many forms of the game and I still find it really really hard to convince myself the need of more than once captain. The reason it is not convincible is because it’s a bloody dubious idea, it’s not a sports tactic but it’s a politics.
Now other part of the story. Let me take sigh :-) I love this part; I love to kick some ass when it comes to King Khan. In his reply Mr. Khan says that may be it’s not a good idea to have multiple captains but let’s try. You know for him the idea may sound like a creative one. I don’t understand why does he try to roam in the realm of creativity, he was never a creative person, he was never an artist and he will never be. That needs a huge paradigm shift; I don’t think that’s possible for him in this life time. In his reply he spoke about the huge money he has put in this team; I would say Khan Sahab don’t get angry on Mr. Gavaskar rather read the column carefully and you would understand how the Australians are exploiting you. Forget about another captain I think first you should get rid of couple of coaches and then get some good leader like Shane Warne.
They say Khan Sahab talks fast and thinks even faster than that. That’s how he got his popularity, he is smart, a real street smart guy. Not an artist, not a creative person but a street smart businessman. I agree that IPL is a form of entertainment but it’s still a sport. It has some rules and there are some age old tactics that always work. If you have problems with the captain then have balls to change it; don’t manifest your teeny tiny intellect about Cricket. Remember it’s not a Farah Khan movie and for your bigmouth it’s not a Karan Johar show. As a believer in freedom of expression I agree his right to slam Gavaskar back but I think that would be just good for his fans. Well Khan Sahab show your attitude where the sun doesn't shine, there are people in this country who have their brains and tongues sharper than you.
